[4] “Love suffers long and is kind; love does not envy; love does not parade itself, is not puffed up;” – 1 Corinthians 13:4 (NKJV)
In 1st Corinthians 13:4-8, Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, wrote sixteen characteristics of God-kind love. All of them are so important and can be used to evaluate our love for others, especially people of the faith. But I want to talk about the second one in today’s devotional. That is, love does not envy what others have. Think about this.
How many people walk around every day wanting to get what their fellow friends have? They see a fellow having a car and start envying the person. Really? Where is that contentment spirit that prevented people from following unreasonable ideas? Today, it is sad to say that many people are looking for money not to make an impact but to prove to others that they have something. Oh, what a tragedy.
Let not envy lead you to buy things to prove a point to others, which many don’t even care about what you have by the way. Your race of faith in Christ is very unique. As such, there is no need to copy what another man is doing just because you like it. Discover your purpose in the Lord and be determined to be different. It is well with you.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your grace in my life. Help me to be content with what You have given me and not envy what others have. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
