Call Upon God in Your Misery

[23] “Awake! Why do You sleep, O Lord?
Arise! Do not cast us off forever.
[24] Why do You hide Your face,
And forget our affliction and our oppression?
[25] For our soul is bowed down to the dust;
Our body clings to the ground.
[26] Arise for our help,
And redeem us for Your mercies’ sake.” – Psalms 44:23-26 (NKJV)

Have you felt miserable before? What did you do in that situation? Indeed, it’ll be about making your life get better. Right? Some people drink excessive amounts of alcohol as a way of making them forget about their problems. This practice didn’t start today because it is even captured in scripture (see Proverbs 31:7). But let’s ask ourselves this question. Do alcoholics really forget about their problems? No! When they get back into consciousness, what they were running from comes back facing them. So, you see, there is something better to do when you are in misery. Call upon God.

One of the reasons why God called David a man after his own heart was because he learnt how to cast all his burdens on him. See what he wrote in Psalm 44:23-26. He was in distress, and instead of beating himself up, he told God to wake up and turn His face upon them (referring to Israel). Surely, God won’t turn His back on them, having a leader like Israel?

Just as David did, learn to call upon God in your misery. You don’t have to go out begging people to have mercy on you, especially when you are in financial trouble. No! It is God who convinces men’s hearts to help you. Seek God to bring the helpers rather than go to the helpers to get bounced. May the Lord help you.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me always to remember to call upon you, especially in times of trouble. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
