[14] “Therefore, my beloved, flee from idolatry.” – 1 Corinthians 10:14 (NKJV)
Idolatry, in the days of old, was all about worshipping graven images. In the Bible, there were many times people served idols like Baal, and for those people, it always didn’t end well with them. Today, idolatry is about serving anything at all that claims your allegiance, including your phone. Idolatry is terrible, and God wants you to flee from it. But in what way?
First, God wants you to recognise Him as the final authority in every area of your life. Secondly, He wants you to let Him claim your utmost allegiance and nothing else, even your career. Let me talk about the first one.
When I say to flee from idolatry by recognising God as the final authority in every area of your life, I am referring to you not allowing anything to take you away from obeying Him and following His ways. In other words, don’t allow anybody or anything except God to dominate your life.
Secondly, to let God claim your allegiance means not letting juicy offers from the world sway you from sticking to God’s path. Cement your convictions in the Word of God so much that no issue in this world will be enough to make you go off course. Be strengthened in the name of Jesus!
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me to flee from idolatry that is developing or has developed in any area of my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
