What if your plans on marrying that beautiful lady of your dreams are moving smoothly, and suddenly, something happens which starts to bring doubts to your mind about the marriage? What will you do? Will you call off the wedding or continue pressing to make it happen? Similar situations have happened to several people in this world. In fact, I was sad when I heard of how the family of a lady she intended to marry rejected him a few weeks to the wedding. Today, he’s married and thriving in ministry. But what happened to Joseph in the Bible is what this article will be addressing.
Mary was betrothed to Joseph before the angel Gabriel came to tell her that Jesus would come to the Earth through her. To both of them, it was a heavy blow to their smooth marriage plans. However, to God, it was the fulfilment of prophecy. Joseph wanted to divorce Mary quietly because of that pregnancy (see Matthew 1:19). And if that had happened, Mary would have suffered even more than she did.
- She’d be accused of fornication, which can lead to her public stoning to death.
- Jesus wouldn’t have gotten connected to Judah’s family line, causing the accuracy of God’s prophecy to be at stake.

Obey God wholeheartedly
An angel of the Lord stepped into this situation and told Joseph not to be afraid to take Mary home as his wife. And to my surprise, Joseph obeyed God without complaints despite the doubts raging through his mind.
Do you look at situations that come up against you as stepping stones to what God has prepared ahead of you? Or do you see them as red signals to give up in your pursuit of divine purpose fulfilment? Most times, in the midst of situations, God speaks when you seek Him for divine direction.
Sometimes, He tells you what to do without you even praying (Joseph did not need to pray for the angel of the Lord to appear in his dream). But are you discerning enough to know it’s Him speaking to you? Joseph didn’t have a problem discerning that God was the One who spoke to Him through the dream. What about you?
God is very visionary. Many times, when He tells you to take on a decision, the rich result is usually for the benefit of generations.

Be visionary in your decisions
It was so uncomfortable for Joseph to marry Mary. I suppose it even fast-tracked his preparatory plans. Eventually, they got married, Jesus was also raised, and the family was built.
God is very visionary. Many times, when He tells you to take on a decision, the rich result is usually for the benefit of generations. Imagine God telling Abraham that the whole land of Canaan is for him and his seed (Genesis 13:14-15). Meanwhile, at that time, the land was bare. You see, if you’re not visionary about your daily decisions, you’ll deprive generations of benefiting from your godly obedience of today. If Joseph didn’t obey God, who would have fathered and provided for Jesus until He started ministry? If I had chosen not to honour God’s call to write, you wouldn’t be reading this article today. Pastor Vlad Savchuk once said, “Answer the call of God, and He will answer the cry of your generation.”
Don’t let today’s discomfort that comes with obeying God prevent you from looking at the generational impact of obeying God and nurturing His promises through faith and patience.
May God be with you.
