“Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, each one’s work will become clear; for the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire; and the fire will test each one’s work, of what sort it is.” — I Corinthians 3:12 - 13 NKJV
Sometimes, we forget that God will judge what we used our lives to do on the judgement day of Jesus. As for unbelievers, they’re already condemned to hell until they come to Jesus before their physical death or the second coming of Christ. But for believers, we’ll appear before the judgement seat of Christ and account ourselves individually to God. Romans 14:10-12 says,
“[10] But why do you judge your brother? Or why do you show contempt for your brother? For we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. [11] For it is written: “As I live, says the Lord, Every knee shall bow to Me, And every tongue shall confess to God.” [12] So then each of us shall give account of himself to God.” — Romans 14:10 – 12 NKJV
Your work will be revealed by fire on the second coming of Christ. Whether you build it on the foundation of Christ or with gold, silver, hay, wood or straw, God’s fire will reveal it. So if you do God’s work shabbily, men will not see it, but God will see it. There’s nothing hidden before God. Even the motives of your heart are plain before Him.
By saying “God’s work” in the preceding paragraph, I’m not just referring to “church work” or ministry jobs. I’m also referring to whatever God has entrusted us to do and take care of. That includes how we treat one another, how we raise children as believing parents, how we work in our various workplaces, and also how we handle and use our possessions for His glory.
As long as you’re alive, you can build everything in your life on the foundation of Christ. You must be intentional that Christ is the center of everything you do, including your education and marriage. I think it’s about time we change our perspective on how we approach the daily activities of life.
God didn’t bring you on this earth just for fun. He’s not only your loving Father but also a judge. He supplies strength to do everything He has called you to do. However, He expects you to use that strength to do what pleases Him.
Do it well, and even if men don’t reward you well, God’s not unrighteous to forget your labour of love.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, I pray that You’ll change my perspective on doing whatever you’ve called me to do and whatever you’ve entrusted in my care. Help me to remember that my works will be revealed by fire on the Day of Christ. If I’m straying off Your path, purge me to get back on Your track. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
