[19] “My little children, for whom I labor in birth again until Christ is formed in you,” – Galatians 4:19 (NKJV)
Did you know that shepherding God’s people is one of the most difficult aspects of ministry? I can confidently say that most of the things pastors do to manage and lead God’s church are entirely about discipleship. Why? Because that is what Jesus charged His disciples (now also to us) to do (see Matthew 28:18).
So, since shepherding is very laborious, you need endurance to keep doing it, especially as a full-time minister of God. That is why it is costly to abandon your personal time with the Lord with the excuse that you are too busy doing the work of the ministry. If you are doing that, return to God – your first love. Otherwise, your energy and zeal to keep doing God’s work will fade within a short time. Remember that the Word of God charges us to keep our spiritual fervour (see Romans 12:11).
We live in a busy world where demands are placed on people to work and do all kinds of things to survive. In the ministry terrain, the workload isn’t as light as many people think it is. Your pastor probably works for more hours than a civil servant does, even though you may not see it. Pray for your pastor if you are a congregant. And, as a pastor, don’t forget to pursue a deeper intimacy with God every day, even as you continue to labour on.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for everything You do for me. Refuel my passion to serve You with gladness. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
