[28] “So why do you worry about clothing? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow: they neither toil nor spin; [29] and yet I say to you that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.” – Matthew 6:28-29 (NKJV)
From Matthew 6:25-34, Jesus dealt with the issue of anxiety that comes with providing some basic necessities in life. That is food, water and clothing. But in verses 28-29, He singled out clothing and spoke about it. You may ask why.
In those days, people didn’t have clothes as nice as they are today. The whole Israel land was very dusty. In fact, some people hired foot cleaners in their homes just because of the dust they acquired upon walking in town. So, clothing was a huge necessity in their daily lives. Today, things are different. Several people have made millions in the clothing business because people are just buying clothes day in and day out.
Because of the increase in materialism, many people are no longer satisfied with what they have. They always want something new to wear, and if they don’t have one, they feel like they are out of options. I don’t want to be biased, but I’ll say many women battle with this more than men. Why worry about what you’ll wear if God has promised to supply all your needs? Wear what you have and trust God to provide what you’ll need in the near future.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your grace of provision in my life. Help me to depend on You to supply all that I need. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
