But Jesus said, “Let her alone; she has kept this for the day of My burial. For the poor, you have with you always, but Me you do not have always.” - John 12:7-8 NKJV
There’s an evil I’ve seen under this sun. It is people treating others with less value until they die. Today, it’s common to see people mistreating other family members because of life’s inconveniences. Meanwhile, they’re the same people who’ll donate large sums of money to ensure funerals of these relatives get conducted well. I thank God that Jesus exposed this evil, although it’s rarely preached.
In John 12:7-8, Jesus showed His disciples how to value His presence. Mary, sister of Martha and Lazarus, whom He raised from the dead, poured a very costly oil on the feet of Jesus and wiped it with her hair. In those days, the land of Israel was dusty. So I suppose Jesus’s feet were so dirty. However, Mary caught a revelation that she doesn’t need to keep that costly oil meant to honour Jesus now until His burial. She knew she had to use it now!
Look at that very well. Mary understood how to value Jesus’s presence beyond culture. Why? Because she used her glory, which was her hair, to honour the Son God. How do you value Jesus’s presence by the Spirit in your life? Do you want to be like Judas Iscariot, who complained of using that oil for something else? Do you think you’ll have the opportunity to be a Christian after physical death? No!
Rearrange your priorities in your mind. Put God first. Be ready to sacrifice whatever it takes to follow Him diligently. Value Jesus’s presence. He’s priceless to have in your life.
You’re a blessing.
