by[6] “The mind governed by the flesh is death, but the mind governed by the Spirit is life and peace.[7] The mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God; it does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so.” – Romans 8:6-7 (NIV)
According to scripture, there are two primary kinds of minds in people—the mind governed by the flesh (carnal mind) and the mind governed by the Spirit. For the mind governed by the Spirit of God, we know that it upholds God’s Word and desires to do things that please God. But I want to talk about one characteristic of the carnal mind today.
In Romans 8:6, the Bible says that the mind governed by the flesh is death (unresponsive to God’s promptings). Then, in verse 7, it adds that the same mind governed by the flesh is hostile to God, doesn’t submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Have you ever wondered why some unbelievers still struggle with their sins? It is because of the state of rulership in their minds. Once they don’t have the Spirit of God in them and submit to God in all their ways, they’ll keep doing those bad things.
If you are reading this and you don’t have any desire to please God, or you have lost that desire, then it’s time to dethrone that “flesh” government on your mind and pursue a deeper intimacy with God for Him to restore your desire to know Him. However, this cannot be achieved if you keep doing things that you are doing to serve the fleshly lusts. So, change the content you consume and increase your prayer and Bible study times. It is well with you.
