[5] “Why are you cast down, O my soul?
And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God;
For I shall yet praise Him,
The help of my countenance and my God.” – Psalms 43:5 (NKJV)
Although God accredited him as a man after His own heart (see 1 Samuel 13:14), David still battled with emotional struggles that were so harsh that he wrote a whole Psalm about it. Think about when he lost his first child with Bathsheba. The Bible says he refused to eat until the child was buried 7 days after his death. He had some anguished moments. And even today, there are a lot of pastors who are secretly battling with mental health challenges that are constantly affecting their efficiency in ministry.
Dear friend, if you are having this challenge, I encourage you today that you are not alone. Your issue is well addressed in scripture. Just read Psalm 43, where David wrote a Psalm talking to his soul when he was down. As David did, you should tell your soul to get up when you feel down, especially when times are bad or life circumstances hit you hard.
Your pastor, spouse, parents or loved ones may not always be around you to deal with this situation. Some may not understand what you are going through so well. So, the earlier you lean on God, the better. Don’t let how downcast your soul is derail you from utilising the power of God to turn your situation around. Rise and move for change. May God be with you.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me get up well, fit, and strong to do what You have called me to do today. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
