Put On Love

“And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.” — Colossians 3:14 NIV

Love is the greatest. It’s greater than faith, hope and other virtues in Christ, even patronised by worldly people – such as kindness, gentleness and patience.

Love is so powerful that it replaces all the numerous laws in the Old Testament (Romans 13:10). And Paul, knowing this reality, told us in Colossians 3:14 that we should put on love because it’s the raw material for quality unity.

But before he said that, he spoke about some great virtues that we must clothe ourselves with in the preceding verses. Those were compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, patience and forgiveness. Now all these virtues are good, but love is greater than them all. So when a child of God focuses on manifesting the love of God to everyone in excellence, he’ll exemplify the virtues spoken of very smoothly and rarely have problems with people.

Decide to put on love. In other words, wear the garment of God’s love wherever you go, not just in church, so that you can represent Jesus well at your location. Before you consider retaliating for the faults of others, think about love and forgive people. God will reward you.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

In the name of Jesus, Lord, empower me to put on Your love every time. Help me to live in the reality of Your love wherever I go and whoever comes my way. Amen.
