“Lead me, O Lord, in Your righteousness because of my enemies; Make Your way straight before my face.” — Psalms 5:8 NKJV
In David’s time of existence, there were several evil things people were doing, all for the sake of earning something prominent, like a name for themselves. Kings were given so much authority to do whatever they wanted with their lives, especially in matters of relationships.
David knew that without his connection to God, he’d walk in evil ways. There were times he had gone astray from God’s path. And he saw the consequences. David knew the clear line between good and evil. But again, he understood that he was flesh and he needed help. So he prayed, saying, “Lord, lead me in Your righteousness.”
Now note that David didn’t tell God to lead him in his own righteousness. He didn’t define what’s righteous by his standards of life. Today, some of us prefer to follow our own paths while claiming to follow God. Friend, that doesn’t work in God’s kingdom.
It was Jesus that said, “If you love Me, keep My commandments.” — John 14:15 NKJV
Don’t let your determination to follow your choices end you up in the wrong place, only to forcefully choose later to obey God. Surrender your ways to God. He’s the ancient of days. He knows what’s best for you. Your complaints won’t change His principles. Aspire to understand them instead. And your life will be glorious.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer
Father, in the name of Jesus, lead and guide me in the way everlasting. Lord, lead me in Your righteousness. And help me forsake my evil ways. Amen!
