“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” — Philippians 4:19 KJV
God planned each person’s life before one was born. And because anybody physically born is in the likeness of man and not God (Genesis 5:3), all unbelievers and even newborns have naturally deviated from the cause of God.
God has provided the solution to this problem. And that’s Jesus Christ. When you receive Christ, you get divinely and automatically ushered to the realm of endless spiritual transformation. In that way, you become a subscriber to the reception of divine knowledge, the ever-enduring need of all Christians. It’s this knowledge of God and Jesus Christ, the Sent One, that will make you understand the eternal life you’ve received and also now cause you to live in God’s likeness.
Paul understood this very well. So he told the Philippian church that God will supply all their need (not needs as some people quote it) according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.
From that verse, it implies there are riches in the glory of God. And according to those riches, God will lease out knowledge to His people by Christ Jesus serving as the Messiah upon their lives. Paul never replied to the Philippi church by telling them that God would replenish the ministry support he received from the church.
He told them that if God will supply divine knowledge, it’s enough to keep them giving. In other words, God doesn’t give unto us for us to only dash out to others. He supplies knowledge to the giver so that when he receives more, he’ll not turn Him into a resource multiplier but a knowledge giver and helper in the getting of spiritual understanding.
For example, when you give in church and in that same week, God helps you become better in your finances; that testimony is good, but the divine knowledge you pick up from it is more important to God. Why?—Because if you have knowledge that the more you give, the more you receive, you’ll keep on giving cheerfully, and not out of expectation to receive more.
Friend, don’t reduce God to a sugar-daddy, claiming He’ll automatically supply what you support His ministry. He does it, but Philippians 4:19 isn’t the central scripture that explains this principle. It’s rather Proverbs 11:24. You reap in multiple folds what you sow. Keep sowing into the ministry because souls need to be reached with the Word of God.
You’re a blessing.
