Jesus Expects You to Give to the Needy

[3] “But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, [4] so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.” – Matthew 6:3-4 (NIV)

Generosity is one of the most cherished virtues in Christianity. But do you know that many believers struggle to be generous? In fact, several people don’t give to others because they are plagued with several life issues, most of which involve money they can’t afford. But what did Jesus say?

In Matthew 6:3, Jesus said, “But when you give to the needy …”. My emphasis is on the word “when.” When “when” is used in a statement, it means that things will surely happen in the future. Right? Jesus didn’t say, “If you give to the needy”, making generosity optional. No! He used “when” because He expects every child of God to be generous, especially to needy people. Did He know that a time like this will come when some believers will struggle to make ends meet? Yes, He did. But it is also written that it is more a blessing to give than to receive (see Acts 20:35).

See, no matter how much you think you don’t have, psych your mind to be generous to others by faith. The day you start thinking about others benefiting from you, you’ll see resources come towards your direction. Remember that Jesus expects you to give to the needy. So, plan to be generous.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your mercy and provision in my life. Help me to be generous to many people as You bless me with more resources. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
