It Is Better to Take Refuge in the Lord

[8] “It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in humans. [9] It is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes.” – Psalms 118:8-9 (NIV)

In a world where security is one of the highest priorities in every nation, it is essential that people feel safe wherever they are. Some people can’t walk alone confidently at certain times of the night because they are afraid. And that’s okay. But what about protection against some avoidable circumstances in life? Most of those cases have nothing to do with physical security.

The Psalmist said in Psalms 118:8 that it is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in humans. That implies putting your trust in man doesn’t guarantee safety. Why? Because people can fail and disappoint you on many occasions. If you have been a leader for some time now, I suppose you have had many such experiences before, especially when a team member forgets to be up to task when you need him.

People cannot be trusted because nobody is perfect, although the Father desires His children to be perfect in love (see Matthew 5:48). It is better to take refuge in the Lord for everything you are doing because overreliance on people is very costly.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your reliable protection over my life. I trust in every Word You have said concerning my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
