Follow the Way of Love

[1] “Follow the way of love and eagerly desire gifts of the Spirit, especially prophecy.” – 1 Corinthians 14:1 (NIV)

Growing up, I kept hearing a statement from several people who were dating: “I fell in love with him/her.” But as I read the Bible, I never saw that statement. I only saw “walk in love” in Galatians 5:2 and then “Follow the way of love” in 1 Corinthians 14:1. That means God’s love isn’t a valley to fall into but rather a way to walk in. What a mystery!

God is love (see 1 John 4:8), so His very essence is wrapped up in love. That is why for anyone He saves, He gives him the Holy Spirit, who in turn sheds abroad His love in our hearts (see Romans 5:5). Hence, as a Christian, if you genuinely get to the point of hating people, then there’s something wrong with you. Why? Because hatred isn’t part of your spiritual make-up in the new creature that God has made you in Christ upon receiving His salvation.

Can I tell you something? Love is more powerful than your emotions. To love as Jesus did, you must live like Him, and that takes grace to do that. You will be offended, gossiped about, and even conspired with by the very people you may never suspect. But in all these things, whether you hear of the evil talk of men or not, love them. Let God empower you to carry on life no matter what happens to you.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for everything You keep doing for me. Help me to love people as You love me. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
