Fear the Lord and Shun Evil

[16] “The wise fear the LORD and shun evil, but a fool is hotheaded and yet feels secure.” – Proverbs 14:16 (NIV)

What comes to mind when you hear about the fear of the Lord. To many, it is about being scared of God, or even afraid to disobey even one of His commands in your life. But the fear of the Lord is far more than that. John Bevere says that it is about being scared to be away from God’s presence.

When you are conscious of God’s presence in your life, you won’t need another human being to tell you to live in awe of Him. The reverence He will woo your heart for Him will overshadow every desire to do anything evil, including those done in secret. Dear friend, I want you to know that even though God is sovereign, He is still loving. He prefers that you come before Him just as you are for His grace to cleanse your life rather than stay in sin and corruption.

However, there is something you need to have if you are to fear the Lord and shun evil. It is called wisdom. That is why Proverbs 14:16 tells us that “the wise fear the Lord and shun evil…”. If you lack wisdom, ask the Lord. He will give it to you liberally (see James 1:5) because He knows when His wisdom is abundant in your life, you will live in reverence for Him, and your life will be beautiful.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, grant me more wisdom to live in reverence unto You for everything You keep doing for me. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
