Faithful Are the Wounds of a Friend

[6] “Faithful are the wounds of a friend,
But the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.” – Proverbs 27:6 (NKJV)

When I double-checked the meaning of the word “faithful” in Proverbs 27:6, it means “to build up” or “support.” So Proverbs 27:6, in other words, can be said, “Building up or supportive are the wounds of a friend, but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful.” And you know that as believers, our real friends are those in Christ, not unbelievers. Right? The Bible says in Proverbs 27:17 (NIV) that,

“As iron sharpens iron, so one person sharpens another.”

If your friend doesn’t carry the same spiritual identity and consciousness as you, how can he support you from the bottom of his heart? Proverbs 20:6 (NIV) says,

[6] “Many claim to have unfailing love, but a faithful person who can find?”

There is a shortage of faithful men in this world, even in the ministry. Too many people are selfish to submit to godly leadership, and that is really bad. But according to Solomon, even if those who’re faithful wound (offend) you, it’s a way to build you up or support you.

For instance, let’s say you have a faithful minister as part of your church, but he doesn’t like fulfilling tasks on time. Because that’s his attitude, you can’t change it overnight. And instead of complaining bitterly about his attitude, see it to be a way of developing patience in you.

Don’t let another believer’s dissimilar attitude destroy your countenance at times. Sometimes, God wants to teach you great things through the behaviours of such people and several life encounters whenever they are around. Be patient with others; God will help you.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, Your Word makes me understand that faithful are the wounds of a friend (Proverbs 27:6). So I ask today, give me like-minded believers of diverse attitudes to help me build a great character needful for wherever You’re taking me. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
