[12] “... Since you are eager for gifts of the Spirit, try to excel in those that build up the church.” – 1 Corinthians 14:12 (NIV)
God loves everybody uniquely. His favourites are human beings. That is why the grace that brings salvation has appeared unto all men (see Titus 2:11). But even though God embraces people, how each one, particularly His children, will excel in Him depends on them, not Him. For instance, the Bible says in James 4:8 (NKJV) that,
“Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.”
Just look at this verse again. You need to draw near to God before He draws near you. It’s not the opposite. That is why, though there are many believers, each one’s knowledge of God isn’t the same.
When Jesus ascended to heaven, He gave gifts to men (see Ephesians 4:8). So, each believer has at least one spiritual gift resident in him. It may be untapped, unharnessed or even utilised. However, how one excels in that gift is dependent on how well he harnesses it. For your gift to develop and impact nations, you cannot afford to sleep on it. You have to use it, even if it’s not that good for now. As you keep harnessing it, then it’ll become better.
God is wise. The spiritual gifts He has given His people are in the raw state, so everyone will have an equal opportunity to harness theirs. Excel in your spiritual gift by ministering it to one another (see 1 Peter 4:10).
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for giving me a great spiritual gift. Please help me harness it for the impact on many. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
