“I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is my flesh, which I will give for the life of the world.” — John 6:51 KJV
Bread is one of the most consumed foods in our world recently, especially in the mornings. I personally like bread, not because of its taste but its nutritional benefits. I wasn’t surprised when Jesus compared “life” to bread when He spoke of Himself being the bread of life in John 6.
No matter how well food gets prepared, if you don’t eat it, you’ll stay hungry. In the same way, Jesus is the living bread which came down from heaven for our profit. But He said, “if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever.”
So Jesus is saying that it’s not only about He being there for us. If we don’t come to Him and receive the spiritual food abundant in His flesh — the Word, for our spiritual nourishment every single day, we’ll not live for ever. That doesn’t mean we’ll lose eternal life. No! Nobody in Christ loses his salvation. But when it comes to kingdom relevance, only those who consistently feed from Jesus get numbered amongst the impactful people.
A part of the labour involved in you, growing spiritually, depends on you coming to Jesus, not Him coming to you.
You cannot do ministry without spiritual encounters. And the giver of such encounters, Jesus, is giving you an invitation to us to go deeper with Him. Psalm 42:7 (KJV) says,
“Deep calleth unto deep at the noise of thy waterspouts: …”.
A part of the labour involved in you, growing spiritually, depends on you coming to Jesus, not Him coming to you. Do you want to go deep with Jesus? Come to Him. Put up the effort to read and study the Word, pray persistently, avoid skipping the gathering of the saints and doing the work of the Lord. These are essential things to prioritise first in your life. Take a step to draw near God today; because, by so doing, you shall eat of the living bread that came down from heaven – Jesus.

Father, I choose to eat from the Living Bread – the Word, every day of my life. Permit me not to be slack in experiencing spiritual encounters that’ll shift the paradigm of my walk with you. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
