[16] “Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day.” – 2 Corinthians 4:16 (NKJV)
Sometimes, I read this scripture and sob in my heart because so many believers go through a lot of tough things in life. Things may be difficult in the world; economies in several countries are getting worse every day, and people are battling with plenty of personal issues in their minds. This world is, indeed, a sad world full of atrocities. But Jesus has told us to be of good cheer because He has overcome the world (see John 16:33).
In 2 Corinthians 4:16, Paul entreats us not to lose heart in the Lord despite the issues we face each day. Yes, the outward personality – your physical life, may be weary and tired. You may feel like giving up on what you are doing because things are not going as well as you wanted. But it is that time you have to shut down what your mind is telling you about what’s happening around you in order to concentrate on what God is stirring up inside you.
If you have made up your mind to get encouragement and comfort from the world, I’m sad to tell you that you have signed up to experience many unfortunate things. This world is under the rulership of the devil (see 2 Corinthians 4:4). So, don’t look up unto it for help. Instead, come to Jesus, and pursue a deeper intimacy with Him. Let Him, who is in you as a believer, be the utmost source of your inspiration.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your ever-flowing comfort in my life. Help me to love you greatly, and look unto You for help. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
