[32] “Do not cause anyone to stumble, whether Jews, Greeks or the church of God — [33] even as I try to please everyone in every way.” – 1 Corinthians 10:32-33 (NIV)
The Corinthian church was one of the most stubborn churches Paul had ever handled. They received the gospel of Jesus in good faith. But when Paul wasn’t around, he heard reports about some believers in the church indulging themselves in the very evil acts they got saved from, which was very shameful. I mean, how can a believer commit incest and see nothing wrong with it? Do even unbelievers do that? Many don’t, although some do.
Unfortunately, today, many church leaders and elders are failing the congregants. There are more ministry leaders caught in sins every single day. And that has caused many splits in mega churches, especially in the United States. What a tragedy! When a ministry leader does that, he causes those weak in the faith to become weaker. It’s like the pillar they were leaning on for spiritual support is no longer trustworthy and stable. Oh! If you have faced that challenge before, may the Lord strengthen you to continue your race of faith in Christ Jesus.
But even more, you’ll also mature in Christ. And others will become dependent on you, especially for spiritual counsel and guidance. What do you do? You must stand firm. Just because you saw a leader fail doesn’t mean you ought to emulate his ways. He’s a human, and Jesus is always the standard. Live a life that glorifies God, both in secret and in public. Do not cause anyone to stumble, but be faithful to shepherd the flock of God in your care.
Prayer:
Father, help me to hold on to Your faith in me. May I grow stronger and stronger in the knowledge of the Word. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
