[28] “For which of you, intending to build a tower, does not sit down first and count the cost, whether he has enough to finish it— [29] lest, after he has laid the foundation and is not able to finish, all who see it begin to mock him, [30] saying, ‘This man began to build and was not able to finish’?” – Luke 14:28-30 (NKJV)
What is cost? It means everything involved in getting something done, both in labour and monetary terms. When making purchases, calculating the cost involves computing the prices of goods together. However, building an organisation or establishing a ministry involves a great deal more than just money. Sadly, many people are oblivious to this reality. Why do I say that? There is a proven statistic that over eighty percent of startups fail within the first year of inception. What does that mean? Those who fail, forget to count the cost before starting to build what they intended to, hence their failure. This unfortunate situation happens to businesses, ministries, and even corporate organisations.
If God has called you to reach nations for the gospel, don’t only envision the euphoria of standing before the crowds in your mind. Also, consider the cost involved in the things you need, the hours of labour you have to commit, some even working deep into the night during your early years of inception, and much more that I cannot name since some are unique for each person.
Don’t look at the beautiful pictures and reviews of people’s organisations, buildings, and activities they showcase on social media and think they didn’t work hard to achieve that level. I tell you, so much occurs behind the scenes to bring you what you see. Before jumping in to pursue any idea in your life, always count the cost before starting to build. When you know the cost and are still willing to pursue it, make adequate preparations with an emphasis on good administration and time management before kick-starting. The Lord is with you.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me not to be deceived by the euphoria of any idea in my mind but to be empowered to bear the challenges that come with it the moment I start it. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
