Allow People to Make Their Choices

“And the Lord said to Abram, after Lot had separated from him: “Lift your eyes now and look from the place where you are—northward, southward, eastward, and westward; for all the land which you see I give to you and your descendants forever.” — Genesis 13:14 - 15 NKJV

Before Abraham (then Abram) left his father’s abode, God told him explicitly that he’d make him a great nation (Genesis 12:2). At that time, he had no son, much more to think about for generations. However, he trusted God.

Lot followed Abraham as he left home. And although Abraham did nothing about it, it became evident with time that Lot couldn’t live with him anymore. Each of their livestock’s herdsmen fought over land acquisition. And Abraham, being a peacemaker and a visionary person, told Lot to choose the land he wanted.

Lot saw the plain of Jordan well-watered everywhere. So he thought he had chosen a fertile land to live. Years later, he was found in Sodom, constantly tormented by the Sodomites’ evil deeds (2 Peter 2:8).

Abraham, being patient with God, stayed in the land of Canaan. It was later then God told him that he had given him the whole land of Canaan forever. Today, it’s that same land the Israelites live in.

God is a generational God. He makes decisions with generations in mind, and that’s what we are supposed to do. Before Jesus died, He knew many people would later be saved (Hebrews 2:9-10). For this cause, he despised the cross and overlooked its shame (Hebrews 12:2).

People around you may take decisions based on their present circumstances. But as a person of vision, be like Abraham, who waited on the Lord to hear what He had to say. Don’t be in a rash. Allow people to make their choices, whether good or bad. Even if you lose some helpers along the way, don’t give up. As long as you’re on the path of God, you’ll not miss your providential way in Christ. Amen!

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

As You have given us the free will to choose between good and evil, God, I pray that you’ll strengthen me to make the right decisions while giving me the privilege of others to make their decisions in Jesus’ name. Amen!
