A Strong Charge to God’s Priests

[23] “They are to teach my people the difference between the holy and the common and show them how to distinguish between the unclean and the clean.” – Ezekiel 44:23 (NIV)

Did you know that you are a priest of God as a believer? Revelation 1:6 and 1 Peter 2:9 confirm this very well. But being a priest of God is not about titles, unlike how many see leadership as titles these days. It is about responsibility. You can attest that anybody who knows what he has to do and is serious about it, especially at the workplace, usually emerges as a good worker. So, with this in view, what is your duty as God’s priest?

The responsibilities of God’s priests are not written in one specific Bible verse. They are scattered across several books of the Bible, both in the Old and New Testament. One such verse is Ezekiel 44:23, where the Lord Himself gave a strong charge to His priests. Although you may say that it’s in the Old Testament, its unfolding is in the New Testament, meaning it is still applicable today.

In Ezekiel 44:23, the Bible says the priests of God are to teach God’s children the difference between the holy and the common (profane). In addition to that, they should show them how to distinguish between the unclean and the clean. That means, as far as this Earth is concerned, many people, including some believers, have spiritual discernment problems. Right and wrong are not merely determined by human interpretation; they require the teaching of sound doctrine in scripture by God’s priests. So, dear servant of God, don’t be surprised when people come to you with situations you find easy to solve, but they don’t. It’s part of your duty; do it diligently and help others.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for all You do for me. Give me more wisdom to discern between the holy and profane well, lest I miss Your direction for my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
