[9] “How can a young person stay on the path of purity? By living according to your word.” – Psalms 119:9 (NIV)
Purity is one of the most debated topics in this generation. Why? Because upholding moral values has degraded so much in recent times. It’s sad to say that there are more sexually immoral sins happening these days, even among teenagers, than there used to be in the olden times. I personally believe that the sins going on in this generation are much worse than what people did during Noah’s time, for which God opened heaven’s floodgates to wipe all of them out. However, what has made God not yet destroy the world with water is His promise against such an act in Genesis 8:21.
Although David was a man after God’s heart, he had a flawed life. He sinned several times, even to the point of committing sexual immorality with Bathsheba. Did he face consequences for such a sin? Yes! What happened between Amnon and Tamar in 2 Samuel 13 was one of the effects of such sin. Even though David repented, he bore the consequences. Today, things are different. It is much more difficult these days for many young people to stay on the path of purity with the constant increase in pornography and erotica consumption on social media and other X-rated websites. More people are purchasing condoms and various kinds of contraceptives to engage in casual sex, and it’s even worse on campuses and universities where young adults are given more freedom outside their homes.
Psalm 119:9 has the solution to this pandemic. If you are young and want to know what to do to stay on the path of purity, you only need to live according to God’s Word. And that’s a lot. Why? Because it requires you to be regular in your personal fellowship with God and active in ministry. You don’t just get up and start having a desire to follow God’s ways in a generation where most of your colleagues may have started doing immoral things. No! Things don’t just happen like that. That urge to live following God’s ways must be nurtured, so take responsibility for that.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me to stay on the path of purity, even in this perverse generation where immorality is on the rise. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
