[4] “My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, [5] so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God’s power.” – 1 Corinthians 2:4-5 (NIV)
Paul is undoubtedly one of the greatest preachers in history. Billions, if not trillions, of people, have benefited from his works, especially his epistles in the New Testament after the different parts of the Bible were assembled. But there was one thing he shared with the Corinthian church that is of much importance, even today, when the world is getting busier, and more people are making pastors responsible for their spiritual feeding instead of themselves.
Paul said in 1 Corinthians 2:4-5 that his preaching to the Corinthians was not with wise and persuasive words but with a demonstration of the Holy Spirit’s power, lest their faith rest on human wisdom. So, from this, it is dangerous for a preacher to present the gospel to people with intellect and carefully chosen, wise words. If you do that, people who listen to you without checking what scripture actually says will have their faith reside in your wisdom, and the day you come to tell them that some things you preached about were inaccurate, they’ll be very disappointed.
No matter who you are in God’s kingdom, ensure that you don’t let your faith rest in human wisdom. As a preacher or leader of a church or ministry, let your central goal be to present people to God blameless, not to amass wealth or even make a name for yourself.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for teaching me Your Word. Help me preach Your infallible truth with much accuracy in revelation, lest I deceive people. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
