The Lord Is a Shield Around You

[3] “But you, LORD, are a shield around me, my glory, the One who lifts my head high.” – Psalms 3:3 (NIV)

Shields were heavy, metallic objects used by warriors in ancient times to provide cover during wars. Today, it’s quite different. Several police officers use modern shields made of thick glass, not metal, to protect themselves, especially during mob riots. But all those shields were good enough to cover the front part of their bodies, not their whole body. What am I saying? Human shields can only cover some areas of your body, not the whole body. But David says in Psalms 3:3 that the Lord is a shield around him. He knew God was his protector and that no one else could protect him wholly, even though he had numerous guards and security personnel.

Do you think your money or security system in your house can protect you wholly? No! Even if they do on the physical, you are still prone to spiritual attacks. Only God can protect you both inside and outside. You can have all the money in the world, yet without spiritual protection from the Lord (especially if you aren’t born again), a witch can cast spells on you. It is the Lord who strengthens you to walk according to God’s path, leads you through the still waters and still comes back unscathed.

Instead of trusting in what you have to protect you, rest your hope in God. He is the only One who will ever be faithful to you, not another human being. He never fails. In fact, He is a reliable God. He will keep you from all harm and watch over your steps as you live to fulfil His will daily.
