[18] “Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.” – Matthew 18:18 (NKJV)
God is the one who created heaven and earth. Right? And He didn’t just do that without any linkage between those two. He actually linked them. That is why God was able to visit Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden at the cool of the day (see Genesis 3:8).
God’s intent was not to make heaven inaccessible to humans, not physically but spiritually. But because of sin, that separation came for a while (see Isaiah 59:2). He sent Jesus to come and repair that brokenness. So today, God has reconciled the world unto Himself (see 2 Corinthians 5:19), but it’s left to man’s part to be reconciled with Him through salvation. Fortunately, some have done it and enjoy a beautiful relationship with Him. But others (the unbelievers) haven’t, and they need the gospel. Today, I want to talk about one of the privileges a child of God gets upon connecting with God.
In Matthew 18:18, Jesus said that to you as a Christian, whatever you bind on Earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Think about this! Your earthly activities have an effect on what happens in heaven. What a privilege. But to understand it better, “heaven” in that verse doesn’t only refer to “God’s abode”, as you may interpret it. It also means “the unseen realm”.
If you pray to deal with something the enemy has caused in the unseen realm, your prayer will provoke heaven to respond to you and deal with that situation. Some men of God in scripture understood this so well. For example, Elijah prayed that there would be no rain in Israel except at his word (see 1 Kings 17:1). Did it happen? Yes, it did. Why? Elijah understood how to use his spiritual authority.
Some of the things that happen or keep happening in your life are because you don’t do anything about them. If you will be fervent in prayer, those things will cease happening. Don’t leave your life to chance and think everything will just be fine. I tell you, the evil in this world is so great that without prayer, you can’t make much of an impact. Press on!
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the spiritual authority You have given me in my life. I pray that I’ll utilise it very effectively to enforce only heaven’s will in my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
