Be Happy While You Are Young

[9] “You who are young, be happy while you are young, and let your heart give you joy in the days of your youth. Follow the ways of your heart and whatever your eyes see, but know that for all these things God will bring you into judgment.” – Ecclesiastes 11:9 (NIV)

Happiness is free. But do you know that many people are battling with depression every day, making it hard for them to stay happy? Yes. Many people are battling with too many problems that overwhelm their minds, and when they are fed up with it, they start worrying. It will surprise you that many young people battle with depression more than even older ones. Meanwhile, the Bible says be happy while you are young.

Serving in the ministry for seven years (as of the time of this writing), I have counselled several young people who find it hard to stay happy even for a few days. Most of the time, what makes them unhappy is because of unmet expectations. It even gets worse when there’s a lack of dependable provision in their lives. But God’s Word encourages us to be happy, especially in our youth. Come to think of it.

Is it easy to live according to what God’s Word says? Certainly not. But why? Because the prince of the world, the devil, is constantly employing arsenals against God’s children from enjoying their privileges in Christ. It is not easy to maintain your joy in the midst of troubles. But with God, all things are possible. Issues magnify according to how much attention you give to it. So move forward in faith, and trust God to provide all your needs, both material and immaterial, for the benefit of your wellbeing.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for all that You do for me. Help me to maintain my joy amidst all the troubles in my life. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
