[21] “It is better not to eat meat or drink wine or to do anything else that will cause your brother or sister to fall.” – Romans 14:21 (NIV)
Once, I had a conversation with a friend who was living with a married couple for a while. Because of his presence in the house, he usually notices when the couple gets into problems with each other. But to his surprise, this couple never displays their frustration in front of their children. I never bothered about it because I was about eighteen years old then. But as I grew older and nearing marriage, I realised how important it is for kids not to be affected by the marital problems of their parents, especially in the early stages of their lives. If it happens, it leaves such a bad impression about marriage in their minds, of which only God’s Word can bring all those things down. Today, it is sad that some people are going around not believing in the efficacy of godly marriages because their parents failed them. What a tragedy! What am I saying?
The Bible cautions that a believer in Christ should not do anything that will cause another child of God to fall. That means the actions of other people who have been in the faith for quite a while and matured spiritually have an influence on others. In fact, I can say that one of the places people observe things a lot is the church. Because of that, there are several gossipers in many churches. It is everywhere, including even the smallest church in the world.
God has set you free in Christ to live unto Him and not to use your life to indulge in the desires of the flesh. Therefore, there is a charge on your life to be careful in your way of life. Do not do things that will cause other believers to fall because there are people in the faith who are like little children, unable to bear the faults of mature believers in Christ.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your grace and mercy in my life. Help me to handle my life well by the empowerment of the Spirit. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
