[12] “Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer.” – Romans 12:12 (NIV)
When you hear the word “hope,” it is usually not used in relation to the word “joyful.” Haven’t you realised that? Well, it is because those who need hope are usually heartbroken and show no signs of joy on their faces. Such people are often overwhelmed by their problems, and their search for solutions typically hurts their mental health, sometimes impacting their physical health as well. But the Bible encourages us as believers to be joyful in hope. Why? Here’s the explanation.
Our hope in Christ is based on the certainty of God’s Word, not on some abstract expectation that things will improve as time goes on. Our lives as believers in Christ do not rely on motivational speeches but are grounded in the solidity of God’s promises boldly written in His Word. So, if the Bible says that you must be joyful in hope, it means that you should let the anchor of your hope stand on the solid ground of faith that God will come through for every problem you are facing today or will face in the future.
Don’t let your problems steal your joy. Once you allow that, you’ll give the devil a foothold to inflict your mind with more pain, and your health will deteriorate. Remember that Psalm 16:11 (NKJV) says,
[11] “You will show me the path of life;
In Your presence is fullness of joy;
At Your right hand are pleasures forevermore.”
Spending time in God’s presence can help you find joy in Him amid your problems. That is precisely what Paul said in Philippians 4:6: Be anxious for nothing but in everything, let your requests be made known to God. Return to hope, dear one.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me maintain my joy as I hope that You will turn my situation around in my life. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
