[8] “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God:” – Ephesians 2:8 (KJV)
When I was a child, I used to receive a lot of gifts from loved ones. Although I don’t remember each gift I received, I can recall how refreshing it was to receive the gifts as a child. These family members, particularly the extended family, greatly loved me. It’s not like that today because I’m a grown-up person. But since I’m still a child of God, I still receive gifts from the Lord. One of them is what I want to discuss in today’s devotional: salvation.
Many people preach salvation as an escape ticket away from hell. But how many times have you heard it preached as a gift from God to you? Ephesians 2:8 tells us that we, believers, are saved by grace through faith. That’s not all. It says this salvation is not of ourselves. Instead, it is the gift of God. Guess what that means? God specially packaged salvation as a gift to you, loaded with many benefits yet to be uncovered as you pursue a deeper intimacy in your knowledge of Him.
No human puts a wrapper around a gift but has nothing in the wrapper as the real gift to you. Isn’t it? Now, if we humans don’t give empty gifts to others, how much more God? Dear one, salvation is God’s gift to you with benefits in it. You didn’t just receive an escape ticket from hell, but a whole package for it to beautify you in eternal life in Christ.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your love and care. Now that I know that Your salvation is God’s gift, I pray, help me uncover the benefits in it so that they will beautify my life. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
