[11] “Dear friends, I urge you, as foreigners and exiles, to abstain from sinful desires, which wage war against your soul.” – 1 Peter 2:11 (NIV)
One time, I watched a documentary about refugees in other countries who were being interviewed about their living conditions in the countries they were currently living. Most of them said their lives were fine, but they missed home. Definitely, there is no place like home. Right? But what if I told you that your rightful home is heaven, not your parent’s or marital home?
Being conscious of this truth, Peter clearly said in 1 Peter 2:11 that we should abstain from sinful desires that wage war in our souls. Why? Because we are foreigners on Earth, not permanent inhabitants. That means that every sinful desire that wages war in your soul is a signal from the devil that is geared towards making you settle your mind on earthly things rather than setting your affection on things above.
Dear believer, you don’t have an enemy who doesn’t know what he’s doing. The devil, although he has no power, is still cunning. Remind yourself that you are a foreigner on Earth as God’s child. So, be strong in your mind, and give the devil no space to manipulate any area of your life. Remain empowered to live unto God wherever you are.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your divine benevolence in my life. Help me always to be conscious of Your promises in my life. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
