Exercise Rulership Over Sinful Desires

[7] “If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door. And its desire is for you, but you should rule over it.” – Genesis 4:7 (NKJV)

Just read that scripture again. God told Cain that after the boy realised his sacrifice to the Lord didn’t please Him. I must say that that same spirit of envy and competition exists in many lives, including some believers in Christ. Many people want to excel but aren’t willing to do what those who excel do. Friend, that is not how things work.

Nobody knows that special thing Abel did that made his offering please God. And no one also knows what Cain did that made his offering rejected by God. But God knows each person’s heart. He knew there was something not right in Cain’s heart. Look at even the boy’s reaction after seeing his offering as unpleasant. God told him, “If you do well, will you not be accepted? And if you do not do well, sin lies at the door…”. That means God gave the boy a second chance to present his offering well, but he didn’t take advantage of it. Murder was raging in his thoughts, and God told him that he could exercise rulership over that desire. Today, every believer in Christ has the tenacity to exercise rulership over sinful desires.

Have you not read Titus 2:12, where the Bible tells us that grace teaches us to deny all manner of ungodliness? You have the power to silence every demonic thought suggested by the enemy in your mind to taunt you to do anything God won’t be pleased with. Stop giving excuses to God that you couldn’t control yourself, which is why you fell into that sin. Yes, He has forgiven you, but the Holy Spirit will convict you.

Do you want to live in peace and condemnation-free? Then, live a pure life before the Lord of Glory. Let it be in your consciousness that He is with you every single minute. So, always do what He says, which is for your good.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Lord, help me to exercise rulership over sinful desires the devil suggests in my mind. May I finish my course on Earth with no strand of evil. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
