“Send one of you, and let him fetch your brother, and ye shall be kept in prison, that your words may be proved, whether there be any truth in you: or else by the life of Pharaoh surely ye are spies” - Genesis 42:16 (KJV)

The verse above was Joseph’s words to his brothers (who, by then, still didn’t know his true identity). Men have always weighed words. The fact that a person has been told something does not mean they will believe it immediately. Most of the time, he would like to ascertain the validity or surety of what he has heard. For this reason, Joseph was able to get his brothers to bring Benjamin to him to prove that what his brothers told him was true. That is no different from how many believers sometimes treat God’s sure Word. He knows this and has proven His words to be the truth. In this article, I’ll point out that the sure Word of God needs no further validation and that you can rely on it entirely.

What is the Word of God?

“In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. In him was life; and the life was the light of men”

John 1:1-4

The Word dwells in God, the Word is the supernatural Supreme Being (God), the Word is the blueprint for the creation of the universe, the Word is the reason why certain things do not exist, and the Word is life and the light of all men. This same Word became flesh and died for your sins and mine. So, in essence, the Word is Jesus Christ.

What is the sure Word of God?

The sure Word of God is equal to the Word of God, but for human doubt and stubbornness of heart, it has proven to be true. Every Word that proceeds from the mouth of God was, is and will always be true (see Psalm 119:160). There is the Word of God in the scriptures and the one He tells you through his Holy Spirit. Everything in the Bible, from the Book of Genesis to the Book of Revelations, is true. The books are named and arranged the way they should be. So, anything you read from the Bible can be understood through divine revelation and applied to your life because it is true. For instance, in 1 John 1:9, we are told,

“If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness”

That is the sure Word of God; the Word will not fail. However, when it comes to the Word you hear in our spirit, you sometimes cannot ascertain whether it is Him or not. Well, that is subject to God’s sure Word, which is the Bible. So, if what you hear is against the scriptures, you know it is not God’s sure Word.

What is the essence of the sure Word of God?

Now that we know what the sure Word of God means, how does it benefit the Christian or the unbeliever who has heard it? Anything you hear or read from the Bible is true and will happen. If you are told that “by His stripes you are healed” (see Isaiah 53:5, 1 Peter 2:24), rest assured you are healed despite your ailments. If you read from the Bible that your sins are forgiven and you are a new creation (see Hebrews 8:12, 2 Corinthians 5:17), believe it, you are. And if the world hates you, be rest assured in the Word that says the world also hated Jesus, but He has overcome the world (see John 15:18, John 16:33). People go through certain situations, and the Bible tells them to fear not, but because they do not know that Gods word is sure and true, they end up fearing. People seek refuge in worldly things because they can see them and think they are sure. But they are not.

How about God’s sure Word? Did God not tell Abraham He would multiply His offspring as the stars of heaven and as the sand that is on the seashore (see Genesis 22:17)? Did He not tell Hannah, Mary and Sarah that they would give birth? Didn’t all these things happen? Yes, they did! Knowing what the sure Word of God is helps you to take Him by His words and never give up.  It is time to believe in each and everything the Word of God says, and by so doing, you will grow in your relationship with God. Amen.
