Wake Up, Oh Sleeper

[14] This is why it is said:
“Wake up, sleeper,
rise from the dead,
and Christ will shine on you.” – Ephesians 5:14 (NIV)

One of the most frustrating things many people don’t like is for others to wake them up when they haven’t had enough rest. Why? Aside from encountering health problems such as migraines, there are potential bad emotions the one taking his rest can do that can infuriate the one trying to wake the person up. Oh! But do you know that there are people in this world who are spiritually asleep, or let me say, dormant, that need awakening?

When I talk about someone being spiritually dormant, I am referring to unbelievers whose spirits are insensitive to God’s promptings. Such people are asleep and are in the power of darkness (see Colossians 1:13) because their lives are under the control of the evil one. Unto such people, the scripture tells them to wake up and rise from the dead (spiritual inactivity before God), and then Christ will shine on them.

Dear believer, you are the one God has commissioned to share the message of reconciliation with these ones who are asleep. Tell that unbeliever to wake up by accepting Jesus as Lord and personal saviour, who will regenerate their spirits (see Titus 3:5). People need Jesus! Preach Him and Him alone.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your light in my life. Help me share the message of reconciliation with those who sit in darkness so that they will come to Your marvellous light. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
