[18] “The Spirit of the LORD is upon Me,
Because He has anointed Me
To preach the gospel to the poor;
He has sent Me to heal the brokenhearted,
To proclaim liberty to the captives
And recovery of sight to the blind,
To set at liberty those who are oppressed;” – Luke 4:18 (NKJV)
One time, Jesus went to the synagogue to preach the gospel, and the scriptures were on the pulpit. At that time, there was no New Testament, so the Torah and some books of the prophets were there. He opened it randomly and chanced on Isaiah 61:1-3. And guess what? He read it to the entire congregation and told them that that prophecy had been fulfilled before their very eyes. Why? Because that thing the prophet Isaiah wrote was about Him.
Jesus read the scriptures before them as One whom the Spirit of the Lord is upon. And because of that, all the effects of the coming of the Holy Spirit upon Him started manifesting in His ministry. He preached the gospel to the poor. He healed the brokenhearted. He proclaimed liberty to the captives, healed those who were blind and set at liberty those oppressed by the devil, including the madman at Gadara. Wow, such great work!
But today, the same Spirit that quickened Jesus to do all these great and mighty things is upon you. That is why you have every empowerment you need to do many kingdom exploits for the glory of God to impact your generation. So, if you aren’t doing as much as God has commissioned you to do, it’s not because you aren’t capable but because you need to harness your spiritual gift to affect many lives.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the presence of Your Holy Spirit in my life. Help me to do much more for Your kingdom with what I have. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
