Strike the Shepherd, and the Sheep Will Be Scattered

[7] “Awake, sword, against my shepherd, against the man who is close to me!”declares the LORD Almighty.
“Strike the shepherd,
and the sheep will be scattered,
and I will turn my hand against the little ones.” – Zechariah 13:7 (NIV)

Jesus quoted the second part of Zechariah 13:7 in Mark 13:27 when He wanted the disciples to know that they would deny their Master before He was crucified. Actually, what the disciples did was not just because they feared that they would also be arrested and crucified with Jesus. It was a fulfilment of prophecy in the Old Testament. Today, I am glad to tell you that though the disciples’ behaviour first saw the prophecy, it has become an operational principle in many organisations, even in secular institutions.

“Strike the shepherd, and the sheep will be scattered,” scripture says, which means that when the leader of any group suffers something terrible, it will affect the followers. It is just simple! Many people don’t understand why leaders in various institutions have many more privileges than other team members. They don’t understand that leadership comes with more responsibilities and attacks that followers are blind to. Like the disciples, they never thought that arresting Jesus would scatter them that much. In the same way, you may not know how vital your leader is until something happens to him.

Pray for your leader. Honour your boss. Respect your senior pastor. There are many battles such people fight daily to ensure that your security as a team member or shepherd is not compromised. Don’t join anyone to speak against such people.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me honour the people you have placed above my life to be responsible for my well-being. Protect them always. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
