Saving Money Is the Least Investment You Can Make

[26] “But his lord answered and said to him, ‘You wicked and lazy servant, you knew that I reap where I have not sown, and gather where I have not scattered seed. [27] So you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest.” – Matthew 25:26-27 (NKJV)

After the master scolded the lazy servant for not using his talents to work, he told him, “…you ought to have deposited my money with the bankers, and at my coming I would have received back my own with interest.” I sat down and brooded on what Jesus meant when He said that because I thought it was just a reactive statement because of what the servant did. But after having a Word session with a loved one, the revelation came.

The master lauded the first two servants for having used the talents he gave them to work. Right? But because the third one hid his in the ground, he (the master) said he would have done better to save that money in a bank rather than hiding it. Hiding money is also a form of saving money, but it’s more local and yields no interest. Saving at the bank can yield interest but at a low percentage. Comparing what the master said to the first two servants to what he said to the last servant, I can tell you that saving money is the least investment you can make. There’s no justifiable compound interest on your resource if you save it.

Am I saying that don’t save? No! Investments yield compound interest with time, but what you save can be used, especially when there is an emergency. Didn’t the last servant go to bring what he saved? What if he had squandered the talents? He would have received even heavier punishment for that. Save, but prioritise investing. It’ll help you in the long run. If it’s money, invest. If it’s your skill, invest in your education to upgrade it. If it is your spiritual gift, harness it to bless lives, and you’ll improve. Don’t let whatever you have in you that will benefit many remain dormant.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for the gifts You have given me. Help me to utilise it well for the benefit of many. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
