He Who Has Suffered in the Flesh Has Ceased From Sin

[1] “Therefore, since Christ suffered for us in the flesh, arm yourselves also with the same mind, for he who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, [2] that he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh for the lusts of men, but for the will of God.” – 1 Peter 4:1-2 (NKJV)

Jesus never promised us a problem-free life when we come to Him. He knew that the present age in this world is full of evil, and it hasn’t changed. So, He said in John 16:33 that we shall have tribulation. But He added that we should be of good cheer. Why? Because He has overcome the world. How does Jesus overcoming the world become a win for us? That is the purpose of today’s devotional.

In 1 Peter 4:1-2, it’s written that Christ suffered for us in the flesh (physically through His crucifixion). So because of that, we believers should arm ourselves also with the same mind. In other words, because Christ suffered for us, we will also go through suffering, not only for living by the principles of Jesus, but also in dealing with some evil ways we are used to living, and that is really happening in our generation. Today, someone can hate you for following God’s direction over your life. Even more, some Christians find it hard to confess secret sins to godly people to help them. But in such instances, they don’t know that confessing their sins to others will help them go through the suffering to deal with them permanently for their inner healing (see James 5:16).

“For He who has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin.” That is the ending part of 1 Peter 4:1. Right? What does it mean, you may ask? Here’s the answer.

Don’t skip the hard way of discipline by refusing to confess what is bothering you to loyal people for help, especially your spouse if you’re married and a team of pastors if you’re in ministry. We all need to protect one another and not tarnish the image of one another. Everyone has weaknesses, and sometimes, to deal with them, going through suffering is necessary.

Love discipline, and your life will always go well because of the inner checks in it. The Lord be with you!

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, give me people who’ll check my life well without judging me. Help me go through every suffering You’ve ordained to purge me of every filthiness, both in the flesh and spirit. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
