[1] “Therefore we ought to give the more earnest heed to the things which we have heard, lest at any time we should let them slip.” – Hebrews 2:1 (KJV)
Sound doctrine requires constant listenership in order to get well settled in the spirits of each child of God. Many people retain just a little percentage of the things they hear, even from church. Even fewer people revise the notes they take after church. Hmm! This has made it easy for the Word the children of God hear to slip. But should it be that way? No!
In Hebrews 2:1, the Bible tells us that we should guard the Word we have heard by giving it a more earnest heed (attention). Why? Because if we don’t do it, they will definitely slip from us. So, get it right. Your time spent in church is never enough to let the sound doctrine you hear from the pulpit settle in your spirit. You must read and study the Bible, revise your notes, listen to sermon podcasts, pray, fast and do all other spiritual exercises in Christ with intentionality. That is how to force God’s Word to settle in your spirit.
If you think going to church on Sunday is enough, I came to tell you that you have much to do. Living by the standards of God’s Word in this perverse generation requires knowing God and His Word for yourself. Do the hard work to see God’s Word settle in your spirit and see your life improve constantly.
You’re a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your Word in my life. Help me to guard the Word I hear in my heart with intentionality every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
