God Is Your Security Against Shame

“No one who hopes in you will ever be put to shame, but shame will come on those who are treacherous without cause.” — Psalms 25:3 NIV

Did you know we live in an evil world (1 John 5:19)? You don’t need to water weeds for them to grow among crops. They’ll grow by themselves. That means it is natural for anything in this world to produce evil, and where evil is, there’s disappointment and all kinds of shame.

I once had a chat with an old school friend who lamented about how his father abandoned their family for no justifiable reason when they were young. That made him very sorrowful at heart because he went through suffering for so long. But by the grace of God, this friend of mine is doing well now, not because others came to support him, but because Jesus came to his rescue. Jesus gave him hope to believe that all his needs would be catered for. And guess what? He believed it.

David was a wealthy king. He had everything he wanted. Nevertheless, David understood that there was a possibility of encountering shame if he placed his security in any of his possessions. So he said in Psalm 25:3, “No one who hopes in you will ever be put to shame …”.

There’s no assurance that anything earthly you put your hope in won’t fail you. God is your security against shame, not your parents, job, family or connections. He is the ancient of days. He knows how to take care of you in unimaginable ways. Don’t lose hope in Him because He’s perfect, even though the people who ought to express every dimension of His nature are imperfect.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer

Father, I pray in the name of Jesus, assist me to anchor my life, strength, and possessions into Your hands. Take care of me when nobody is around to support me. In You, I put my trust. Amen.
