Blessed Are Those Who Have Regard for the Weak

[1] “Blessed are those who have regard for the weak; the LORD delivers them in times of trouble.” – Psalms 41:1 (NIV)

Have you ever felt weak or not too strong in your body to do something? Maybe it is a sickness that resulted in that, or you experiencing difficulty completing a task given to you. Apart from sick people, there are many people who are weak in more than one area of their lives. And Jesus understands us. It is written in Hebrews 4:15 (NKJV) that,

[15] “For we do not have a High Priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but was in all points tempted as we are, yet without sin.”

Jesus knows each person’s weaknesses, addictions and other faults, which we just can’t help but commit them. That is why He wants us to cover each other. Check Ephesians 6:10-17, where Paul spoke about the armour of God. You’ll not see any armour for back covering. That implies that God wants each believer to be one’s brethren keeper. Unfortunately, many people are in church, saved, and some, even tongues-speaking, yet backbiting one another in ways even unbelievers may not do. If you keep speaking evil about people who think they love you, know that when you’re weak, God can decide not to send those same people to help you.

The Psalmist said in Psalms 41:1 that blessed are those who have regard for the weak. But why? It’s because the Lord delivers such people when they are in trouble. Do you see another man’s weakness as an opportunity to disgrace him or to cushion him in prayer? Think twice about this! Selfish people focused on pulling down people’s efforts won’t also receive divine help from the very people they are doing wickedness against. Next time, when you speak evil against another person, check whether that person can bear it when spoken before his face. May God help us all.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me to be more compassionate towards those who are weak in any area of their lives so that I will cover them when they falter. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
