[12] “Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling,” – Philippians 2:12 (NIV)
How do you feel when you see a very plump person in the gym? Sometimes, it’s funny. Right? Because when you watch the weight and the metals that person is lifting, you know that it’ll take long streaks of consistency for the person’s muscles to be well built up. Yes! That’s how it is. Usually, athletes perform best after training, not when they haven’t trained.
So, when the scripture says that as a believer, continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, it means there is so much in God’s package of salvation you’ll not see manifest in your life until you work it out. God isn’t saying, “Work for your salvation.” No! To work out is different from working for. Workouts bring out the best in you; work for something, and your labour is exchanged for that reward.
Salvation will always be by grace through faith (see Ephesians 2:8), not by works. However, to get the most out of God’s salvation that you have as His gift, you need to be ready to probe deeper into it, primarily through walking in divine obedience as you pursue a deeper intimacy with Jesus.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for giving me Your gift of salvation. Help me to work it out well as I walk in divine obedience to you. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
