A Careful Listener Will Testify Successfully

[28] “A false witness will perish, but a careful listener will testify successfully.” – Proverbs 21:28 (NIV)

Back in Solomon’s days, people used to send their pleas before kings for judgment. There were no lawyers, court clerks or judges. Interpersonal relationship cases were primarily judged by the king, and that was fine. So, Solomon, even as a king, had experience in the role of a judge. Through revelation and spiritual inspiration, he wrote in Proverbs 21:28 that a careful listener will testify successfully, but a false witness will perish (meaning, lose a case).

I’m not a lawyer writing this, but I have some friends and family members who serve in the judiciary. Most of the time, the words the lawyers say and the testimonies the clients (plaintiff and defendant) share most influence the outcome of the ruling. A person who rushes to say something that isn’t true can lose the case because what he said can be used against him. That is why some lawyers choose to speak for their clients and not the clients themselves.

In life, you may have issues with others. Such problems can happen at home, church, workplace or anywhere people gather. However, if you listen to people carefully, you can present your opinion more clearly. But some people don’t do this because they are too angry to hear people out in those heated times. Be careful of what you say and be patient to listen to what others say. It’ll help you to take more responsibility for your faults and resolve cases amicably.
