[24] “Therefore let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.” – 1 John 2:24 (NKJV)
As a diverse organisational leader who has helped many teams in leadership, I have observed how fast people forget the reason for whatever they do in the organisation. Many times, when employees walk in fresh and complete the onboarding processes, they tend to obey all the rules and regulations of the company. But years down the lane, those same people start taking advantage of system bugs to do evil things, some of which involve stealing huge sums of money and engaging in bribery and corruption.
Is it good? Of course not. But these things happen because people drift apart when the purpose is not constantly re-emphasised in a team. And that is not surprising because there are a lot of things happening inside this world that are making people forsake the reason why God brought them to the Earth, and this shouldn’t happen to you. Apostle John, led by the Spirit, addressed this issue in 1 John 2:24 that
“… let that abide in you which you heard from the beginning. If what you heard from the beginning abides in you, you also will abide in the Son and in the Father.”
He was speaking about not forgetting the good Word of God you keep hearing, especially the foundational principles of Christianity. Do not think nothing will come against you when you are bent on retaining God’s Word in your heart. They will, but as you remember what God taught you, it will be easy to make the right choice anytime you encounter that situation.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, help me not to forget the Word I have received and will continue to receive in my daily life. Thank You, Jesus, for everything. Amen!
