A Judas Iscariot Amongst the Team

[20] “When evening had come, He sat down with the twelve. [21] Now as they were eating, He said, “Assuredly, I say to you, one of you will betray Me.” [22] And they were exceedingly sorrowful, and each of them began to say to Him, “Lord, is it I?” [23] He answered and said, “He who dipped his hand with Me in the dish will betray Me.” – Matthew 26:20-23 (NKJV)

Have you worked in a team before? How does it feel to have one person not so cooperative? Frustrating, right? But do you know such people are in almost every organisation? They may not show it vividly, but they have that trait. Judas Iscariot was one odd member of Jesus’ twelve, but he managed to do evil things while staying around until he was exposed that he would betray Jesus before everyone. Think about this.

There’s always a Judas Iscariot amongst every team in every place, be it in ministry, business or organisations. Such people are subtle people who put up lovely faces and even make thought-provoking suggestions concerning how things can be done. But in their minds, they have selfish ambitions known only to themselves and God (well, because God knows everything). As a leader, you must be aware of such people. As a team member, you must learn how to coordinate your life as a person who is part of a team.

Don’t bring selfish ambitions to team gatherings. It doesn’t help. Yes, God can give you extraordinary visions to pursue, which is good because it will not make you settle for less. But learn how to separate such ambitions from your team activities and pursue them as God gives you the enablement.

You are a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, thank You for Your gift of wisdom. As part of Your team, help me to be more committed to sharing the gospel while putting selfish ambitions aside. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
