[15] For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” – Romans 8:15 (NKJV)
Did you know that receiving the Holy Spirit in you gives you adoption unto sonship in God? Maybe you didn’t know that. But just when you got saved, you became God’s adopted legitimate child in whom His Spirit dwells (see Romans 8:9). Have you seen a toddler shy of approaching his parents? No! Unless that child doesn’t know his primary caregivers. Why am I saying this? God doesn’t want you to be shy approaching Him. He wants you to call Him your “Abba Father” because you can find your true identity in Him.
I get it when some preachers present God as a fierce judge over sin and strict in His dealings with His people. However, there is such a strong imbalance when preaching about the Father’s love is neglected. As a preacher of the gospel, don’t convert your sermon to legalism. And as a child of God, be more aware of God’s love for you. That will even help you to revere Him better and obey His will with gladness in your heart, not under compulsion.
In Christ, God has made you free. Do not subjugate this freedom you have in your life to some sets of dos and don’ts to stick to because God is bigger than that. Receive grace to know God better.
You are a blessing.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for saving me. Help me to live even more conscious of Your love for me. In the name of Jesus. Amen!
