Teach Yourself as You Teach Others

[21] “You, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that a man should not steal, do you steal? [22] You who say, “Do not commit adultery,” do you commit adultery? You who abhor idols, do you rob temples? [23] You who make your boast in the law, do you dishonor God through breaking the law? [24] For “the name of God is blasphemed among the Gentiles because of you,” as it is written.” – Romans 2:21-24 (NKJV)

One of the biggest problems in Christianity today is compromise. Many people accuse a lot of believers that they are hypocrites. Some people even attack preachers who falter, saying they cannot preach virtues and practice vices. Well, while some accusations are legitimate, it’s our call as believers to mimic Christ in a world full of evil and corruption. But how can we do that without walking in self-discipline?

Paul, inspired by the Holy Spirit, wrote concerning this by asking, “You, therefore, who teach another, do you not teach yourself? You who preach that a man should not steal, do you steal?” (see Romans 2:21). There were a lot more questions he asked about the same thing, and all boils down to the truth that we must live out the Christ we profess in our private and public lives with intentionality.

Dear preacher, don’t rush to get some information from the Bible just to preach to people. Take your time to study the Word. Teach yourself as you teach others. Instil self-discipline in your walk with God. Beat your body so you don’t become a castaway of the very things you preach to others. Remember that God is with you. Therefore, live your life to please Him.

You’re a blessing.

Prayer:

Father, help me to maintain a devotional life unto You that makes me honour You above all else in my daily life, no matter where I am. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
